The Gnostic Book Center of Los Angeles was established in 2012 and is affiliated with The American Candomble Church.
The Gnostic teachings presented in our Center are in the spiritual lineage of Afro-Brazilian mysticism and Latin American Spiritualism.

In the year 1806, the De Bourbon-Montenegro Family, fleeing the invasion of Napoleon Bonaparte into the Iberian Peninsula, arrived to the Country of Brazil from Europe. The De Bourbon-Montenegro Family brought with them to Brazil a very rich Gnostic knowledge of the occult sciences and the magical principles of the "Old World" Goetia magical tradition as found in many of the ancient occult books of that time period, such as, The Lesser Keys of King Solomon. After the arrival of the De Bourbon-Montenegro Family to Brazil, they became interested in the Congolese magico-religious traditions that were being practiced secretly by the Congolese peoples that were brought from Africa to Brazil in the year 1514 to work on the sugarcane and coffee plantations. One of the reasons why the De Bourbon-Montenegro Family became so interested in the spirituality of the Congolese was because of the similarities that they observed between their own occult beliefs and the spiritual elements of Gnostic Mysticism that they observed within the Congolese religious practices. On May 1, 1864, a black Congolese woman who worked on a coffee plantation in the lush tropical mountains just outside of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, by the name of Paola Fernandes, introduced and initiated Matilda Andrade De Bourbon-Montenegro into the sacred mysteries of the Congolese religious tradition, which later would become the historical beginnings of the present day Afro-Brazilian Gnostic Quimbanda tradition. In the 1920’s the De Bourbon-Montenegro Family immigrated to the United States of America and brought with them the sacred spirit mysteries, initiatory rites and occult philosophy of the Afro-Brazilian Gnostic Quimbanda tradition. During the 1920’s through the 1980’s, the Gnostic Mystic traditions that were practiced by the De Bourbon-Montenegro Family were greatly influence by Matriarch, Maria De Bourbon-Montenegro until her death at the age of 98. One of the most interesting historical facts surrounding the legendary De Bourbon-Montenegro Family is that all of them were Free Masons dating back to the early 1700's. This early Masonic influence can be clearly seen in the unique initiatory rites as practiced in the Gnostic Quimbanda tradition. WHAT IS AFRO-BRAZILIAN GNOSTIC QUIMBANDA ?
The Afro-Brazilian Gnostic Quimbanda religious tradition is a monotheistic "Christian Mystic" system of belief. Monotheism is the belief in "One Supreme God", and a "Christian Mystic" system of belief is a spiritual system which embraces "Jesus Christ", and utilizes the Christ energies in order to manifest our "Divine Will". Initiates of the Afro-Brazilian Gnostic Quimbanda religious tradition refer to God as "Nzambi", or "Nzambi Mpungu". God is also referred to as Nzambi Ntoto which means “The God, Who became man and Who touched and walked the Earth” who is "Jesus Christ".
